Capote
Can someone please tell me what all the fuss was about with the movie Capote? I mean...ugh. I wasn't even slightly impressed with the film. My opinion differs with the ability of Philip Seymour Hoffman to portray the character. I thought he was excellent. The movie in itself, however, did nothing for me and as wonderful as Hoffman was, he wouldn't be worth watching that again. Maybe I need to actually read the book "In Cold Blood" to understand it more.Who knows. I may read the book....but the movie, I could have done without.

Read the book. Then do a little reading on Capote. I think 'knowing' that Capote was real (and a strange little real at that) and not just a hollywood character...makes all the difference.
I loved the movie. First, it was just pretty. The cinematography was startling. The story was beautifully restrained, carefully paced, and the characters perfectly nuanced. I mean, come on. The scenes with Nell and Truman? Crazy. You just understood immediately how they worked together. The scene where he comes in and swirls his coat for her. Or when Truman pouts during her party and she stops everything for him. Everything about the movie is gentle and subtle and deeply felt. I really don't understand what you disliked about it.
